I'm really keen to learn more about European Green practices - the whole green movement in Northern Ireland is really in its infancy and it seems really difficult to get any coordinated advice/action. We do have a transition town programme here which I'm involved in. I wonder are there any transition towns going on in your area? Its a lovely community idea - but at the end of the day, also seems to be a nice, non-committal way for the middle classes to give themselves the 'kudos' of being environmentally active. I think much more determined thought and action has to go into 'greening' northern ireland.

- By profession I'm a teacher of English, but since my retirement I have focused on developing countries (I taught in Africa for 2 years) and on food and agriculture, partly in a 'GreenLeft' context (Green:Left is the name of the Dutch green party. )
- Organisation(s) and Function(s):
- I am secretary of platform ABC (see www.aardeboerconsument.nl) and do odd jobs for the European Platform for Food Sovereignty (see www.epfs.eu)
- Issues I find interesting:
- When I came back from Africa in 2000 I realised: if policies in 'The North' should change (e.g. the Common Agricultural Policy) that would greatly help the developing countries. So I joined platform ABC after a debate organised by GreenLeft, and I learned a lot in the past 7 years. There is still a long way to go.
We urgently need a new CAP, not only to help the developing countries but also to achieve a better European food and agriculture policy, which would also reduce CO2 emissions.
