Maybe everyboday heard about that we in Hungary do not have the chance to use GMO in the agricultural area becouse of our laws. My opinion is that it is better to find a natural way to produce than use GMOs becouse I think we still have no clue about the long term impact on the nature.
For pest ot would be better to invest more money and enegry to produce more from their natural enemies. For mycosis or for bacterial/virus infections I think better to improve resistant species than GMOs.

Both of my grandfathers were small organic (BIO) farmers in Indiana, USA. Most of the small farmers (except for the AMISH, who keep small organic farms) in the USA have sold out to the big mega-farms owned by corporations such as Archer-Daniels Midland, who use most of these Genetic Modified crops in collaboration with MONSANTO, for high yields and high profits. In fact, most of these big, rich farmers receive the most US Agricultural price supports to export their GM grains. MONSANTO and other GM designer grain corporations were also given exclusive rights, to their GM seeds in the new US colony in Iraq. My father has always been an organic gardener before it was cool. I recommend that we should only purchase ORGANIC ("BIO") food products.

A + B = C
GMO + glufosinate = pollution = blind profit

Dear Daniel,
I have nothing to add to your comment : glufosinate is a proven neuroxic. Its encouraged use with all GM Plant as herbicides is irrelevant and dangerous.
There is however some political agrement with this use, regardless of its toxicity.
Yours,

See this attached British medical assessment of the health hazards of GLUFOSINATE which is the active ingredient in all GM Plant - Herbicides, including MONSANTO "Roundup" and the BAYER Herbicide for Gen-Rice.

I made a mistake, it's 18th march, and a direct link to the text is http://www.epfs.eu/DocDetail.aspx?l=006.007&lang=ENG&id=211

Hi everybody - nice that people are joining in. Welcome Quentin and the Hungarian lady.
I've been told that sutainable farming produces more that 'megafarms'. I must have proff somewhere but no time now to look it up. (maybe on the site below, see section 'library'.)
We should find some common ground to start from. How about the news of 3 March on the site www.epfs.eu (European Platform for Food sovereingty)? That's a discussion paper setting out what some groups in Europe (Via Campesina, Friends of the Earth Europe etc) see as foundations for another (better) Common Agricultural policy (CAP) in Europe. It's about 25 pages, in english - maybe have a look at that in the holidays? I'm involved in the initiative to ask agricultural researchers to construct a better CAP for the way the EU money is spent now is no good, and the policy harms farmers in the dev eloping countries and the environment.

I'll be away from 15-25 - so I'll hear later what you think.
